Trail Dynamics

Reverse hike beginning with descent into canyon, challenging climb out. Exposed trail with minimal shade requires early starts in warm months. Well-maintained switchbacks with some loose rocky sections. Return climb particularly challenging in afternoon heat.

Visitor Requirements

Permit required ($10) through Recreation.gov - limited daily entries. High-clearance vehicle recommended for access road. No facilities at trailhead. Swimming allowed but conditions can be dangerous - multiple rescues annually. Best visited spring months. Minimum 3 liters water per person required.
