The trail weaves through one of San Diego's best-preserved oak woodlands, featuring centuries-old coast live oaks and rare Engelmann oaks. Seasonal creek crossings support rich riparian habitat, attracting diverse wildlife including mule deer, coyotes, and numerous bird species. Spring brings vibrant wildflower displays, while fall showcases dramatic leaf colors in the oak groves.


Trail Experience
Beginning at Lake Poway, the path climbs steadily through alternating sun and shade. Technical sections include rocky outcrops and seasonal stream crossings. Multiple vista points provide opportunities to observe raptors soaring on thermal currents. Trail connects to the Mount Woodson system for extended hiking options.
